From construction to operation

Digital engineering and physical engineering coexist

 

In October 2019, the smart construction and management project, led by the Water Resources and Hydropower Planning and Design General Institute of the Ministry of Water Resources, was launched simultaneously with the physical project. The project built a BIM+GIS system platform and an engineering data center, integrating a comprehensive monitoring system of "people, machines, materials, methods, and environment," incorporating core management data such as safety, quality, progress, and investment, and developing a situational awareness application system. In October 2022, the digital twin Pearl River Delta project started, creating digital twins from macro to meso to micro levels, including plot level, station level, equipment level, and component level, comprehensively covering one main line, two branch lines, one branch line, three pumping stations, and four reservoirs of the project. Interactive physical twins, state twins, and mechanism twins were developed, completing the progression and sublimation of "virtual reflecting reality," "virtual predicting reality," and "virtual optimizing reality."

The digital twin Pearl River Delta project pioneered the integration of forecasting, early warning, simulation, and pre-plans into the dispatching and decision-making process. The dispatching center uses video monitoring, SCADA systems, and twin systems to achieve "monitoring, control, and calculation," ensuring safe dispatching. The digital twin construction team participated throughout the water filling and drainage dispatching process of the project, using the digital twin system for real-time calculations, advanced forecasting of water filling and drainage conditions, and timely early warning of key nodes, providing strong support for water filling decisions. It is the first water diversion project in the country to use digital twin engineering to simulate water filling and drainage before the official water filling of the physical project.

 

Forecast: During the water filling process of the physical project, real-time monitoring data such as the opening degree of the intake gate and pipeline water pressure are accessed to dynamically correct the water filling status. Based on the future water level changes of the entire project, the changes in key objects are predicted, and the water filling strategy is adjusted accordingly to ensure the real-time optimization of the water filling plan.

Next, the digital twin Pearl River Delta project will focus on "three safeties" (engineering safety, water supply safety, and water quality safety), aiming at economical and energy-saving water supply, emergency rapid water supply, and safe water quality supply, to escort the forward-looking, scientific, precise, and safe operation of the Pearl River Delta project.
