Spring Festival - Chang Qingqing
Whose family boils new silk in February? A river of yellow bream wouldn't know.
If peach blossoms and plum blossoms bloom tomorrow, don't ask the old plum tree if it knows.
Lichun (Start of Spring) is the first of the Twenty-Four Solar Terms, also known as Zhengyue Festival, Suijie, Gaisu, and Suidan. 'Li' means 'beginning'; 'Chun' represents warmth and growth.
In the Gan-Zhi calendar system, the Yin month is considered the beginning of spring, and Lichun is the beginning of the year. Lichun signifies the beginning of all things and rebirth, meaning a new cycle has begun. Traditionally, Lichun has auspicious meaning.
On Lichun, people traditionally eat radishes, ginger, scallions, and flatbread, called "Yao Chun" (biting into spring). There are also specific foods for Lichun, mainly spring pancakes, radishes, and a five-spice plate. In the south, spring rolls are popular.
After Lichun, the yang energy rises, and all things begin to grow.
